As people started bringing injured and sick animals to Samaritaan Huis for care, we realised the trust the community had placed in us. They saw that the love and safe space we provide for people could extend to our furry friends as well.

Currently, we house 2 pigeons, 1 cat, and 14 dogs. Additionally, we've found homes for 7 dogs with Mariske and 2 kittens with Duane. Every day, we leave out food and water for the neighbourhood dogs that roam, ensuring they have a little comfort too.

"It broke my heart to see how the animals were being treated. If we don't stand up for them, who will?"

We partner with the Boksburg SPCA to help rescue and care for animals from abuse and neglect with the hopes of rehabilitating them in preparation for a happier and healthier life.

Niktha and Kleintjie

Niktha and Kleintjie were rescued just in time, saved from a fate no animal should endure. One day, a neighbour ran to Ouma urgently asking for help. She had seen a man carrying two puppies , one with a wire around her neck and the other being violently dragged by a rope, with the intention to take them to be eaten. When asked about the situation, the man shockingly claimed that this breed of dog was "delicious to eat."

With a heart full of compassion, Ouma quickly offered to buy the animals from him, knowing their lives depended on it. After months of rehabilitation and loving care, with support from the local SPCA, Niktha and Kleintjie were given a second chance. Today, they’ve both found loving homes, where they are cherished and safe.
